Il Laghetto delle Tose is definitely a tiny hike — it takes about 20 minutes, maybe 30 if you’re with kids (plus extra time to enjoy the lake, of course). Still, it’s absolutely worth the detour.

The trail starts at the restaurant Chalet Lagole, below Pieve di Cadore in the Dolomites. The restaurant itself is excellent, with a fantastic view over the lake, so it’s also worth a visit on its own.

From the chalet, the little hike begins by circling a small fishing lake and then heading into the woods behind it. There’s a short, gentle uphill section at the start, and after about 15 minutes you’ll reach a clearing with a river. The river is peaceful and beautiful, forming dozens of tiny waterfalls.

Crossing a small bridge, you continue for another five minutes and arrive at the tiny, idyllic (and freezing!) Laghetto delle Tose with its little waterfalls. It’s a perfect place to dip your feet, relax, or have a picnic.

From there, you can continue uphill for a short but steeper climb behind the lake. There are two or three possible paths, but they all eventually lead to a parking area above the chalet after about 10 minutes.

And so ends this pleasant little hike in the Dolomites — a short but rewarding loop through forest, water, and mountain charm.

Bonus: Parco del Roccolo

If you feel this is a bit too tiny then just 5 min by car from there, from the main square in Pieve di Cadore, there is a nice 10min hike (one way) that will being you to the viewpoint in the picture below. Todally worth a detour!
